Bhutanese refugee delegates attended people’s SAARC summit in Kathmandu and requested the representatives of the SAARC countries to raise Bhutanese refugee issue in the SAARC summit. Mr. N.B.Giri, Bhutanese refugee activist urged to include Bhutanese refugee issues in upcoming SAARC summit agenda. The People’s SAARC will end on 24th November with the declarations.

“Bhutanese refugee issue is the neglected issue in South Asian region. Over 90% Bhutanese refugee population in Nepal is resettled overseas and those remaining refugee must be allowed to return to Bhutan with honor and dignity. The integration of exiled political parties is must to usher vibrant democracy in Bhutan. Include Bhutanese refugee issue as one of the agendas in the upcoming SAARC summit, and put pressure on government of Bhutan to give justice to Bhutanese refugees” said N.B.Giri
Mr. Bamdev Gautam, Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal was the Chief Guest at the convergence.

PSAARC is the gathering of people from all walks of life representing the eight member states of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. It is a forum to foster cooperation, solidarity and action at the people-to-people level in the South Asian region. Over seven thousand people had gathered to participate in PSAARC regional convergence.
Mr. Pema Tendzin, Mr. Tom Adhikari, Mr. Kamal Prasad Koriala and Mr. Karma Duptho were other Bhutanese delegates at the convergence.
The delegate was led by Karma Dupthob, General Secretary of Druk National Congress based in Kathmandu, Nepal.
